The characteristics of glass give jewellery something that other materials cannot match. The makers are often double talents: they can both handle glass and make good jewellery.

When you wear a piece of glass jewellery, you can see your skin or the fabric of your clothes through the glass. In fact, the transparent piece of jewellery takes on the colour of your clothes. So says Ruth Allen, a glass artist who works on everything from lamps to jewellery. Don’t forget the beautiful cord of strips of silk that goes through the tube shape.

Anyone familiar with the abstract jewellery by _ctrhuit by Kana Umeda(see trhough it) will notice that they are becoming more and more technically daring. How do you get such glass links to connect?

Katarina Thorstensson is another who masters this skill. Her work can be an explosion of colour. But also glass can have dreamy hues as when she uses depicts figures. A transparent miniature cowboy hat with a blue stone, who would not want that as a ring?
