De inspiratie voor Mayumi Okuyma’s sieraden van pure, sierlijke lijnen is Panapaná. Het is het woord voor een zwerm vlinders in de Tupi taal, gesproken door de oorspronkelijke bewoners van Brazilië. Een fenomeen dat je ogen nauwelijks kunnen bevatten. Mayumi verwoordt het op een poetische manier: “Het collectief van de vlinders vult de lucht met een lichtheid die bijna tastbaar maakt wat er staat te gebeuren” (fotograaf: Carlos Durigan / Amazônia Real). Inspiratie vindt Mayumi ook in de grafische muziekpartituur van de experimentele componist Cornelius Cardew en de “vrijheid in het zoeken naar manieren om het geluid weer te geven. Bijna alsof ze de lucht en de ruimtes ertussen konden ontwerpen.”
The inspiration for Mayumi Okuyma’s jewellery of pure, graceful lines is Panapaná. It is the word for a kaleidoscope of butterflies in the Tupi language, spoken by native Brazilians. A phenomenon your eyes can barely comprehend. Mayumi puts it poetically: “The collective of butterflies fills the air with a lightness that makes almost tangible what is about to happen” (photographer: Carlos Durigan / Amazônia Real). Inspiration Mayumi also finds in the graphic music score by experimental composer Cornelius Cardew and the “liberty in searching for ways to represent the sound. Almost as if they could design the air and the spaces between it.”
